Ambassador Laurence Pope (Ret.)

Keynote Speaker For Your Next Event

Ambassador Laurence Pope Ret served in the foreign service and diplomatic corps for thirty one years, in one the most important, and difficult, regions in the world – the Middle East, as well as North Africa, and did so during some of more challenging periods of contemporary history.  Being a diplomat is not all “cocktail parties and formal dinners”, but rather about dealing with the critical issues of our national security, and international relations.  His presentation has humorous stories from his vast experiences, but also deadly serious ones which were critical to national and world security.  Among the topics Larry speaks about are International Affairs, Diplomacy, Public Policy, National Security, Middle East Policy, The Arab Spring.

World of Experience

Following a thirty one year diplomatic career specializing in the Middle East, Larry Pope is considered a top expert in the region.  After retirement, he served for several months as the Staff Director in Jerusalem for the International Committee on Middle East Peace, led by former Senator George Mitchell, and after 9/11, he was appointed Senior Advisor for Arab Affairs to the United Nations.

He has also written a biography of an 18th century diplomatic theorist, and has edited a narrative for the Marine Corps History Division.

He lectures widely on Arabic issues, including frequent presentations on the Arab Spring.

He is a national security consultant.
